Urban Landscape Trio B Squared Wine Bar

The trio of  Cityscapes are complete.   They might need a little more positioning, but for now...at least they are up.

My wonderful wife Lecia and buddy Zach helped position the paintings

I hung the final of the three Urban Landscapes I did for the B2 Wine bar in the Pearl.
This little gem in the Pearl District just opened this month.  My  wonderful wife Lecia and  my good friend  and golf guru Zach Welch gave me a hand in the positioning.  Now I just have to move the lighting a little more to center.  I have one more to do for the wine bar, but according to Zach, there has been interest shown in the center painting already, so with a little luck I could be doing even more.
The coffee shop B2 Coffee Haus, which is located a few doors up in the same building features 8 of my watercolor paintings as well.  I'm not going to lie about this.  When I went in to hang this third painting, I was stilll very pleased with how the other small painting came out.  Usually there will be something that I want to change about a painting, but this one still suited my eye.
Of course you can always get better, and I will.  However it is necessary to be satisfied with a result.  That's what keeps me going.  That and being able to see my work somewhere other than in my painting space.
I have been wanting to paint  more, but time hasn't allowed it lately.  This makes for some frustrating days.  Hopefully this will change soon. When faced with such a small amount of time and so many choices of what to do,  the brain will often choose to do nothing.  That's the battle I'm facing now.  I have so many ideas, but I know I don't have time to do even one full painting, so I end up not even getting started on one.

  1. The paintings, seen from afar, arouse my curiosity. I'd like to get a better look. They are hung, I see, at a standing height--in an area where people sit. Was there concern they would be damaged if hung lower--say 48" Aff--above the finished floor? I am a retired interior space designer. Rule of thumb for missing people's heads is 48inches. This applies to cabinetry as well as paintings. At that height the cones of light might display them without adjustment. Some one tall should sit in the banquette to absolutely be sure. Sorry for meeting you with a criticism. I hope I didn't upset.

    1. Thank you L.W. It was actually suggested that I might want to hang them lower. I was a little rushed when I hung this last one and didn't study it closely. I think you're right. The light would actually be better as well at that lower height. This is not an issue with them if I pull those hangers out and bring them down. I always welcome suggestions. I'll try the 48" and see how that works. I did want them to be seen while standing, but I didn't consider the people sitting.

  2. Hi Kevin,
Your work looks great! At first, they seemed a little too high on the wall, but I figured that was done so more customers can see them. And that should work in your favor, though they are so good, I'm confident folks will come closer for a better look...and hopefully, buy one!
Best of luck, Kevin, nothing like a sale or three to bolster the confidence and help pay for those expensive supplies!
    Congratulations and enjoy your day.
    Sincerely,
    Gary.

    1. Thanks, Gary. I will try L.W.'s suggestion to get them lower and more into the light. What I'm particularly happy about is that you can see them from the street as you walk by, so people don't even have to be in the Wine Bar to notice them.

  3. Looks great, Kevin! Did you show us the watercolors at the other place? I'd love to see them, too. Interesting insight from Linda Roth about the positioning - I have no idea about such things.

    1. Thanks, RH. I keep forgetting to get a picture of the watercolors. I took a couple on my phone, but I don't have access to email or transfer the images. I'll have to grab some photos when I re-adust these paintings.

  4. Good for you, get those works out there! Us artist need to be more proactive about selling work and every venue should be explored. My experience with a coffee shop was good, But I would of hung mine higher also to get them out of reach.

    1. Thanks, Jim. If there is one thing I haven't been it's proactive. That's due in part because of my limitations on time. I work so much that I don't have much time to get out there and sell. This venue fell into my lap when my buddy Zach suggested I show my work at his place of employment. The owner liked my work and here I am. It was perfect because both places just opened and they needed art. Like I said in the above comments, I'm going to see if they look better a little lower.
