There was a thunderstorm visible from our back yard a few years back. The combination of Orange sky, rainbow and lightning was inspiring. At first I wanted to capture the event in a realistic painting, then realized I only needed to paint my impressions of that event.

This series was done one Saturday morning and is as close to Plein Air painting as I have come.
I went outside several times to get a visual of the huge moon, and let my imagination fill in the landscape. The actual paintings do not look this blotchy, but they do have a Batik like look to them
